Cynical: With A Pinch of Salt

Don't Trust Anyone Who Says "Trust Me!" I feel guilty that I have not been writing new posts. It is a sign that I have not been learning much on the social aspect. I have been writing other things, which I will hopefully share in a few months. I have learnt a lot of stuff.  Let me start by putting it all out there! Everything is basically a lie. Yes, the statement is wide and overreaching, and maybe a bit nayv. But hear me out. The media (News agencies/houses) will at best tell you half-truths, and the government strategically comminucates so to attain a soft landing. Others call it propoaganda. To get the truth and know what's behind the vail/curtain (Holy of holies, eish sorry), you have to intentionally dig deeper. People are usually self-serving and will only tell you what they want you to hear, in other words, what's in their best interest. Easy access to information sources has made digging easier and difficult at the same time is information overload and me...

Limited By Our Mental Models

Limited by Individual's Library of Mental Models I wrote this one frustrated sitting on the boarding gate benches after a flight delay. It might be all over the place. In this one, I used the word model to refer to frameworks, models, and concepts. We all have orientation based on models that are stored in our brains. Have you heard people talk about finding your true north? Yes, based on the models in our minds, we are likely to think that we have found our true north when we do what society expects. However, true north or orientation is something one creates for himself, one of those untypical routes.  Mental models have a lot to do with exposure, that is, things you have come across presented to you or experienced in your life. Mental models are like the flat earth and spherical earth models. Today we still have people who call themselves flat-earthers, meaning they are operating using a model from the BCs. Our brains have many models: primal, ancient, medieval, and new (civilis...

The 6th Sense - Social Intelligence

The 6th Sense and Models The software that runs in our heads is crucial for our day-to-day functions. One should ask who wrote the program running in my head and making me behave the way I do. Some writers are Media companies, friends and family, classmates, work colleagues, etc. It's crucial to truly identify how the people we interact with write the code that runs in our heads. Self-examination and awareness have never been more critical, given the amount of information brought forth by this digital age. With the merger of the physical and the digital, writing, compiling, and running codes in people's heads will be so much easier, given that we provide more feedback to programmers through smartwatches, smartphones, and other digital things. Unfortunately, with code, some malicious actors will hack you. Do you have clean code in your head, or it's all spaghetti and fuzzy? Interacting with people is the primary form of data transfer. Humans are complicated beings with the a...

Little Mabuthu

The Story of Little Mabuthu - Real  Empowerment Little Mabuthu refers to a young African boy I regard as a warrior. Actually, he is a warrior, given his attitude towards life. He conquers everything on his path. Yet, when you look through his eyes, you see his soul, you feel the humility of your ancestors, and you see endless future possibilities of greatness. An inquisitive young boy with energy that needs to be directed to do good. The real empowerment of any child (Black, white, yellow, green, purple, but here I talk about black Africans from my lived experience) is magnitudes better than BBEEE. Empowerment, according to the Cambridge English dictionary, " is the process of gaining freedom and power to do what you want or to control what happens to you ." When you can't control what happens to you, the system hoses you down, and the longer this happens, the more unescapable it gets. Nowadays, it does not take a village to raise a child since we no longer live in small ...

Ghosting Your Help!

Don't Ghost Your Help - Most Bridges Shouldn't Burn Wikipedia says, " Ghosting is the practice of ending all communication and contact with another person without any apparent warning or justification and subsequently ignoring any attempts to reach out or communication made by said person. " (27/05/2022@20H10). Ghosting is simply rendering someone non-existent. Not to be naive, there are instances where ghosting is warranted, most especially when there's no mutual trust, mutual respect, or win-win relations. So it requires some cost-benefit calculations.  Maybe I'm insufferable and obnoxious. I still don't think so. But in this post, I discuss my observations around how a technology such as social media designed to bring us closer (mainly for ideas/information sharing) appears to be creating many Saharas between people (siblings, friends, acquaintances, etc.), resulting in almost zero opportunities (6/10 unemployed youth). With a mobile device on your palm...
