Cynical: With A Pinch of Salt
Don't Trust Anyone Who Says "Trust Me!"
I feel guilty that I have not been writing new posts. It is a sign that I have not been learning much on the social aspect. I have been writing other things, which I will hopefully share in a few months. I have learnt a lot of stuff.
Let me start by putting it all out there! Everything is basically a lie. Yes, the statement is wide and overreaching, and maybe a bit nayv. But hear me out. The media (News agencies/houses) will at best tell you half-truths, and the government strategically comminucates so to attain a soft landing. Others call it propoaganda. To get the truth and know what's behind the vail/curtain (Holy of holies, eish sorry), you have to intentionally dig deeper. People are usually self-serving and will only tell you what they want you to hear, in other words, what's in their best interest. Easy access to information sources has made digging easier and difficult at the same time is information overload and mental numbness. Thus, defeating the whole purpose of availing vast information libraries. It all gets very murky (Average people like myself don't have time to dig and think). The more they try to explain things to you by repeatedly using jargon and cliches, and act like they are warming you (Prophets of likely doom), you need to be very sceptical, most especially if they are going to sell you something afterwards.
Contrary to what you may know about the internet, that is, it is a free space where all data/information records available, the internet is censored and optimised to generate advertisment revenue for the search engines. The internet accessed via search engines is biased. Everything you have heard today is ciphered, don't take anything at face value. Simplcity is the ultimate sophistication, just like Jesus's parables. You must decipher the text into plain text not mired by jargon, egos, templates, and bias. Do not stick integrity stickers to every word you observe (Hear or read), most especially from a famous source on the internet. Take it all with a grain of salt, even if it is coming from "old people". Being old does not mean someone has knowledge and wisdom. Remember, stupid, average, smart, and intelligent people, they all grow old. I have actually observed that "old people" have a tendency of sharing common knowledge like it's their own self-generated knowledge. It's usually delivered with passion. This often hides the lack of knowledge. But you know, knowing stuff is binary, it is either you know or you don't know. In short, gray hair does not mean wise and/or experienced.
Being taken on a wild ride down the dirt road is part of life. And if you are not careful you'll always be a dumb one on a gravel road. What's important is to sharpen your BS detector and get off these crazy rides. Scammers are everywhere. Unfortunately, the best way to sharpen your BS detector is to lose money in the real world. As I try to find my way in this gigantic maze looking for all kinds of cheese, I often stop and try to think about where I am in the great scheme of things. I mean, the cosmos and human energy. Like checking if my body is where my mind is or is it left behind? Deep introspections and appreciation of truth in its raw form is what I seek. I have it to be ultimate self-awareness which leads to self-mastery. That's just my cheap philosophy right there.
Just like everyone else, I have interacted with many people in life, young, middle-aged, and elderly. All of them have had an impact on my life, good, bad and in-between. This is where one of my greatest fears arose, and that is, fear of growing old stupid or in other words being old and empty with weak philosophies about life. This fear is goes hand-in-hand with the fear being too sure of myself to a point where I fail to listen and self-critque.
In summary, every word you hear or read must be taken with a grain of salt, most especially if it was not written or said by the protagonist. Thus said, African history needs way more brain power to understand. The next monologue will be about how I deal with information.
Here is the irony, the more you learn the more you realise that you know nothing. There is no absolute knowledge in the universe. We all carry a small view of the truth. In other words, we create our own models of the world.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who claims to know it all therefore a liar.
Well said, this comment summarises the whole post 😊 The quest for knowledge is a humbling journey.
